Taking Sound For Granted

Sound.  We take sound for granted.  It is ever present…refreshing, sobering, relaxing and exhilarating all at once.  Sound is what connects us with our world…with our people.  Sometimes it is nice to just sit and listen to the sounds of nature or to the “quiet” of the room.  What happens if you can’t hear those sounds?

Often when hearing diminishes, our world becomes a bit more lonely.  Hearing loss often causes the person with the hearing problem; as well, as friends and loved ones to experience more stress.  For those who are still working or volunteering there may be arguments that pop up debating what was actually said and what was heard.   People decide to retire or to stop volunteering due to the stress.  This causes more withdrawal until many people will feel isolated and depressed.

Studies show that people with untreated hearing loss are more susceptible to falls that can end up as a fatality.  For men the number is almost 3 times that of a woman that falls of the same age.  ( this is for men above 65 years of age).

Untreated hearing loss may lead to cognitive decline.  I am pretty sure that no one wants to hear a diagnosis os Alzheimer’s disease.  Treating your hearing loss can slow down cognitive decline by up to 76%.  That is huge.  What an easy life changing step to make..and at the same time helping your balance.

So you notice your hearing is not quite right.  Maybe your balance seems off just a bit.  What is the first thing you should do?   First reach out to a qualified Hearing Care Provider and set an appointment for a complete hearing evaluation and consultation.   At this appointment, if all testing is completed will take about 1 1/2 hours.  If you are having balance issues, or sinus problems then tympanometry should also be offered at the practice to provide more in-depth testing and information for you and your provider.

Take the first step.  Protect your brain from cognitive decline and improve your balance.  Live a more connected life with those who Love you!  We strive to provide the most thorough hearing evaluation and consultation for our patients.  Make the call and start your better hearing journey with us today!!  385-3497.  To Hear Better Is To Live Better!
